Tip: Three Free Summer Conferences
Free summer events focused on community college education, social justice and equity in education, and preparing for fall hybrid/remote course delivery.
I wanted to share information about three different free virtual conferences happening this summer that looked interesting:
American University’s Summer Institute on Education, Equity & Justice (SIEEJ) Virtual Conference - June 22-24
New Jersey City University’s Community College Showcase: Are You Student Ready? - July 28
Arizona State’s Remote: Connected Faculty Summit - July 13-14
American University (AU) School of Education’s Summer Institute on Education Equity and Justice (SIEEJ) happens over three days (June 22-24) with Zoom sessions that will also be live over YouTube for participants on the wait list. This year's theme is Uplifting Women and Girls of Color Through Antiracist Pedagogy, Practice, and Policies.
New Jersey City University’s Community College Leadership Department’s Community College Showcase: Are You Student Ready? is a full day remote conference on July 28. The breakout sessions all look interesting, and the day will start and end with plenary speakers Tia McNair (author of Are You Student Ready?) and Margaret McMenamin (President of Union County College).
Arizona State’s Remote: Connected Faculty Summit takes place July 13-14, and will focus on online/hybrid/Hy-Flex course delivery. This event is also free, and there’s a wait list signup to get more information about the summit.
Other free events:
Bryn Mawr’s Blended Learning Conference was cancelled for this past spring, and will be held online at a date to be determined, and most likely will be free ($0?)
Higher Education Assessment Conference - all recordings available for free here
Some other events that are asking for registration fees include:
Applying cognitive science to education: McMaster University Conference on Education and Cognition, July 16-17 ($80)
Teaching business: North American Case Research Association (NACRA) Annual Conference, Oct. 8–10 ($100)
Teaching biology: American Society for Microbiology Conference for Undergraduate Educators (ASMCUE), July 8-9 ($135)
