A different update...
As you have probably noticed, I have taken a short break from publishing this newsletter this semester. I lost my mother to cancer just over two weeks ago after a pretty intense few months of treatment and hospitalizations. It has been an exhausting time, and while I’ve been sad to put my writing on hiatus, it’s been a very necessary break. I do hope to be back to my regular schedule in the new year!
As I’m taking some time away, I wanted to share a few things I’ve written about this end-of-semester time - tips for ending on a strong note, taking time to collect student feedback, and planning substantive and reflective final class sessions.
If anyone happens to be at the POD conference this week - please come say hi! I’ll be presenting on Thursday at 3:45pm on research about alternative grading learning communities (“Learning to Ungrade: Faculty Identity Change Through Community”) and on Friday at 9am I’m representing an ongoing research project about feedback literacy (“Beyond the Red Pen: Cultivating Feedback Literacy for Equity & Reflection”). I’ll also have a poster on Friday morning, “Cultivating Statewide Educational Developer Collaboratories to Foster Pedagogical Change,” representing our POD Innovation award finalist project. Please keep your fingers crossed for us as they announce the winners on Saturday afternoon!
With immense gratitude for your patience and continued readership, my best wishes for a peaceful end to 2025…
